Books list
I found this on my friend Julie's blog and thought I would give it a go.
The Big Read, an initiative by the National Endowment for the Arts, has estimated that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they’ve printed. How do you do?
1) Look at the list and color those you have read. (I did the ones I have read and my comments in blue)
2) Italicize those you intend to read. ( I put the ones I intend on reading in red as well)
3) Remark on the books you LOVE.
1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - I love all of her books!! This movie is by BBC is the only one that does justice to the book.2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien- L3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte- this is on my list of books I am going to read this year.
4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling -I love these books. Do I get extra points for reading them more than 5 times???
5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Just started!!
6 The Bible. -It's great. Not since high school.7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte-
8 Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell -In high school and I don't think I will read it again.
9 His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman-
10 Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
11 Little Women - Louisa M Alcott -loved it.
12 Tess of the D’Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy- On my list.
13 Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
14 Complete Works of Shakespeare-No, but I have read LOTS of them
15 Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier -another on my list for this year.
16 The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien- ditto... Does half way then giving up count?
17 Birdsong - Sebastian Faulks
18 Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger I read it a long time ago and loved it.
19 The Time Traveller’s Wife - Audrey Niffenegger I really want to!
20 Middlemarch - George Eliot .
21 Gone With The Wind - Margaret Mitchell At least 4 or 5 times!
22 The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald -This is one that I read every few years. I loved the movie. I am in love with Robert Redford.
23 Bleak House - Charles Dickens
24 War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy Half Way!
25 The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
26 Brideshead Revisited - Evelyn Waugh. On my list.
27 Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky
28 Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck This is another one that I don't remember much about.
29 Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll -I thought this was a fun read.
30 The Wind in the Willows - Kenneth Grahame -Brian read this to me and the girls.
